Spreadtrum Ships over 500 Million Mobile Phone Chips in 2015
January 26, 2016

Chinese fabless company Spreadtrum, a division of Tsinghua Unigroup, said that the company sold around 530 million mobile phone chips last year, seeing over 30% growth year on year, reported China's news source the Paper on January 24. Around 200 million chips the company sold were for smartphones and the rest for feature phones. While Spreadtrum has a relatively small workforce, the company managed to eat away at Qualcomm's and MediaTek's market share in the value line segment. The company's development strategy for 2016 is to focus on security solutions for smartphones and IoT (Internet of Things) application products. Government agencies and police force will be high-priority customers.
